Apartment Review for Walnut Ridge Apartments - Corpus Christi, TX

I am blind and took my daughter to view several complexes before making a decision. Limited income provided for this complex to be in my budget $659 month. My daughter indicated the model was nice, roomy, clean and appeared to be free of smoke and pest. I requested to visit the apartment which I had been advised would be avilable, and was refused stating it was being made ready. I should have left but again due to limited time frame I opted to take the apartment.

I paid three months rent in advance, and was advised I could return on Saturday to collect a key and conduct a move in inspection. In the interim, I was forced to use a cable service and given no choice for which I had to pay. I was advised that I could use DISH satalite but the complex would allow for no method of access to the apartment. I called the next day after signing the lease and told them I was going to cancel, for them to tell me the would not refund the 1498 plus deposits I had placed and ultimately was taken advanage of. I spoke with the property management firm, who ultimately resides in Oklahoma not even in the city, further indicating that I would have to take the apt or loose my funds. I was never told the apartment community mandates a 24 hour cancellation rule, which by the way I was well within the 24 hours.

I was very angry to say the least, regardless I conceded and my daughter and grandaughter picked up the key, we proceeded to the apartment and what we found was reprehensible.

1. Filthy carpet and horrid odors in the unit 2. Water leaks stains on the ceilings 3. Work order noting "ROACH INFESTED", I have never had nor do I intend to live in Roaches. 4. Mold under all sinks 5. Vents covered in grease and grime in both baths and the kitchen. 6. Broken Cabinet doors 7. No icemaker in refigriator after being told there was as an amminity. 8, MOLD and caving ceiling in front bath 9. Filthy Oven and stove, and refrigirator was dirty 10. loose locks on the front door 11. No patio cover for which I had prepaid 12. No access to AC to check for clean filters( I replace every 30 days due to health) 13. Both bathroom sinks covered in cigarette burns, after requesting specifically a smoke free environment. 14. Filth and grime at front entrance 15 Laundry and Utility Room were dirty 16. Akive with fire ANTS 17. Broken stoppers in bathroom sinks 18. Run down and filthy cabinets in the kitchen 19. Dust on Ceiling Fans 20. Surrounding buildings and grounds covered in mold and mildew and trim painting was filthy, trash on the ground near swimming pool.

As I was obviously more angry than before I chose to still work with the company and take the apartment, however they would have to bring it up to standards, not just mine but for the amount of rent they were charging the conditions had to be inhabital and as it was it was not fit for an animal.

The staff on duty after presenting photos of the apartment told my daughter that " They would put in as many work orders as possible".

When renting an apartment no one should have to be subjected to the level of deception presented by this company. There is so much potential and the property is in a good location, however the management firm is and had failed in maintaining and presenting a quality livinging community.

Additionally they do not afford privacy for their clients in the rental office with multiple desk in one office, while requesting personal and private information with other present.

I would not recommed this complex to anyone who wants to live in a clean and safe environment. Also do not sign a lease or take an apartment until you have seen the actual unit you will be renting. The deception is definately A+ and the management deservs an F. The community as a whole in fairness C-.
